WBB PORT

The WBB (wireless broad band) port connects automatically to the MTEL networks. It delivers the satellite data in a protocol which identifies not just the message and capcode but also the frequency the function and message type (Alpha, Numeric, Tone). The message therefore can be distributed in the MTEL network and be completely reproduced correctly in the MTEL picocells at the end of the networks.

The WBB modem is an Intermax and is capable of a single TCP data stream. The modem automatically creates a PPP session within a minute of power up and waits as a TCP server. The connection from the gateway software takes about 2 seconds to connect. If the socket fails the software backs off for a minute and reties the connection. This happens for the life of the application.

24 Hour reregister:

The modem also has a 24 hour reset function which automatically deregisters and then reregisters the modem. This keeps the modem connection to Telstra active.

Power Down on no data:

The modem also has a data detect in the Satellite Gateway which monitors the data coming in from the MTEL network. If this breaks for more than 5 minutes the power is removed from the modem and is reconnected about 10 seconds later. The modem then has another 5 minutes to register, create a PPP session and allow MTEL to connect via a TCP session.
