When a message is created, MTELpage looks up its destination network from the database. This network is permanently assigned and is known as the home network. Messages are only sent to associated networks as a backup to the home network. The networks generally overlap or are adjacent to the home network. During transmission, the message is first sent to the home network and when completed it will then send the same message to each network in the association list. The associated list is maintained by MTEL and can be viewed in the Site Information Tab in the MTELserve server.
In general the home network is a picocell, and the associated network is a second picocell in a nearby town or the commercial Hutchison network. Hutchison can provide backup coverage in areas where the coverage overlaps the existing picocell coverage.
